Advanta Seeds and UPL found a combined solution for weed control in sorghum fields in Brazil. Weed control is one of the main challenges for sorghum growers. Only a few herbicides registered for the crop are safe that don't damage the crop. There is also a lack of options for sorghum genetics with good tolerance to herbicides. Advanta Seeds decided to introduce the revolutionary igrowth® hybrids in Brazil. Igrowth® is the world's first commercial herbicide-tolerant technology for sorghum. This technology allows farmers to apply registered Imidazolinone group herbicides at the recommended rates to igrowth® sorghum plants without causing them damage. In addition, Igrowth® enables growers to have flexibility when using either pre-emergent or post-emergent sprayings, so it fits various production situations and geographies.
The igrowth® sorghum has been widely trialed across multiple seasons and environments to assess the herbicide tolerance capabilities and ensure it is adapted and performs reliably across them. To complete the igrowth® technology, our company tested herbicides which would be the most suitable and safe for the sorghum in Brazil. Finally, the team found the right solution – Zelone. Combined with igrowth®, the herbicide provides effective weed control without damaging the crop. As a result, the growers have a good return on investment and enjoy crop performance. The combined solution for weed control igrowth® with Zelone is a perfect package for the sorghum growers.
